Christmas in Taupo
With the public holidays happening around Christmas, there were a four days week-end from the 25th to 29th of December.
That was again a good occasion to spend some time outside of Wellington, with my little sister this time. We chose to go to around Taupo, one of the most touristic region of New Zealand's North island.
Friday hiking
There are plenty of little tracks around the lake. Because we did not have a car, we chose to stay really close from Taupo (more or less walking distance).
At first, we decided then to go to see the Huka Falls.
Saturday-Sunday hiking
For these two days, we planned to go for some hiking around Kawakawa bay, because we heared that we would be able to camp on site.
We joined the starting point of the first track in Kinloch from Taupo hitchhiking.
After a brief picnic for lunch, we walked to the bay in three to four hours, where we stayed overnight.
On Sunday morning, we packed our stuff early to be able to come back as soon as possible to Taupo. Again, we walked for three hours and half before the end of the track, from where we did some hitchhiking to come back to Taupo.
Bungy jumping !
Taupo has one of the most famous spot of bungy jumping in New Zealand, so I thought it would be a good idea to try it.
