Castlepoint and Martinborough
Time runs so fast: I have not published anything since the end of March.
Fortunately, weather is getting way better, and comes with some interesting opportunities to travel. And that's suiting well to the new style I would like to give to this blog: talking with a touristy point of view about the wonderful landscapes of New Zealand.
Week-end in Wairarapa
A friend I met in Wellington is planning to leave for travelling in the South Island, so he wishes to use its last weeks in the Wellington region to visit as much as he can. As I did not move too far away since my arrival, it is a great opportunity to escape the city and see what the backcountry looks like.
Few week-end ago, on the 3rd and 4th of October, we took his (awesome) van for a two days road-trip that led us to Castlepoint and Martinborough, passing by Greytown and Masterton.
There is not much to say about the trip itself, other than the relaxing greenness of the landscapes and the high number of sheep.
Castlepoint
A little town on the East coast of New Zealand, which with its lighthouse, its cove and way too much wind, reminded me Brittany.
Greytown
We did not stay much in Greytown, and stopped in several other cities (Masterton, well known for its Golden Shears sheep-shearing competition), but I really want to mention the chocolate factory Shoc, offering a wide range of delicious chocolates, made from fair trade chocolate beans.
Neither photos, nor samples here as I know it could drive some of you crazy.
Martinborough
We spent our Saturday night in Martinborough, a town famous for its vineyards.
We were almost reasonable with a French style indoor picnic including melted cheese and wine for dinner.
And we went out for some tasting at Poppies Sunday at lunchtime.
