Abel Tasman
The 26th of October being a public holiday in New Zealand (labour day), some friends planned a trip to Abel Tasman, in the North of the South island, famous for being one of the sunniest place of New Zealand!
We left Wellington by ferry on the 23rd at night, sleep in a backpacker hostel at Picton before going up North early on the Saturday morning.
Kayaking
The plan was originally to do some kayak, going North along the coast, for the first day and half of the second.
During the trip, we had a awesome looking over the coast and some islands.
Te Pukatea bay
Spent the night at the Te Pukatea campsite, at the edge of a forest overlooking the beach.
Onetahuti Bay
After our misadventure struggling agains't the wind on the first day, we were afraid of running late on the second day. So we entered the hard-core kayaking mode, surprisingly arrived at our destination two hours later, letting us a lot of time to enjoy the beach before starting our walking trip.
When the kids we are had some spare time...
Hiking
In the middle of the Sunday afternoon, we left our kayaks and some of our stuffs to the water taxi and left bay following the Costal Track to the North.
Few minutes later, we had an astonishing view of the beach.
Awaroa Inlet crossing
The Aworoa Inlet can be crossed only at low tides.
Inside, this leaves a wet sand pathway, full of shells.
Crossed it barefoot to avoid wetting my boots in the water streams.
Last day
We had a few hours to go to the water taxi pick up point. Way enough to enjoy the view, the walk and the fresh water.
